For Our Clients: Appointments

Scheduling

In most cases, dogs and cats are referred to Veterinary Surgical Specialists of Scottsdale by a primary care or emergency veterinarian for scheduled evaluations and surgery.

To expedite the registration process for scheduled appointments, you are encouraged to download and fill out our Client Registration Form and Patient Information and Medical History Form prior to your consultation. Please complete these forms in their entirety.

In preparation for your appointment,
  1. Assemble and bring all pertinent information including a Referral Form completed by your veterinarian, x-rays, blood test results, special dietary needs and a list of current medications. Please remember that the information your veterinarian provides to us prior to your appointment may be very important, represent a significant time-savings, avoid repeat testing and help to contain diagnostic and treatment costs.

  2. Please plan to arrive 15 minutes prior to your scheduled appointment to complete any registration documents and to create the patient's medical record.

  3. You may give your pet water, but please do not feed your dog or cat for 12 hours prior to your appointment (except for very young animals, animals with diabetes or when otherwise directed by your veterinarian). Continue your pet's normal medication schedule and bring all medication(s) with you.
If you are unable to keep your scheduled appointment, please provide us the courtesy of 24-hour notification. Our client care staff will provide several options to accommodate your changing needs and the best interests of your pet.

When You Arrive

After you have been received by our admissions staff and have completed your registration, a certified veterinary technician will greet you and, with your assistance, weigh your pet. For non-emergencies, you and your dog/cat will be placed in an individual exam room and the technician will collect your pet's vital signs.

The Specialist will meet with you to obtain a complete medical history and your pet will be thoroughly examined - in your presence - by a specialist board-certified in veterinary surgery. On occasion, the doctor may also perform more evaluations of your pet away from the examination room in one of our diagnostic areas.

Following examination, your doctor will provide you with a detailed assessment of your pet's medical condition(s), treatment options, recommendations and estimated expense of care. Consultations for new patients/problems may require approximately 60-90 minutes. Please plan your visit and time requirements accordingly.

A deposit may be required before performing any additional tests or treatments.
